Every once in a while I get to take a big step back in time and visit a place that's just too cool for words. This retreat among the Cypress trees of Caddo Lake is one of those places. It has got serenity, natural wonder, scenic beauty, and good fishing all rolled into one neat little rustic package. Not to mention it reminds me of the song "Polk Salad Annie" from the tops of its Spanish moss-covered branches right down to its Lilly pad-dwelling bullfrogs. But hold-on to your fishin' pole tight: "Thar's bigguns in dem Lilly pads!" No doubt. Largemouth bass here are so hungry they practically scurry down the boardwalk to greet you. I wouldn't attempt a midnight dip though - gators like to prowl (and dip) in those pads too.
