Joe Goff, 6'5' tall, a game warden with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, walks past the gator measuring 23-feet, 1-inch that he shot and killed in Charles Rogers' backyard.
TEXAS GATOR MEASURES 23' 9" Florida's got nothin' on The Lone Star State. In fact, like everything else in Texas, our gators are bigger. Well, at least one is, although I know of a Caddo Lake, Texas gator that was captured (and re-located) measuring over 18-feet.
A photograph below was taken by a KTBS TV helicopter flying over Lake Conroe, Texas. For those of you who are not local, Lake Conroe is about 50 miles inland and north of Houston.
Yes, Virginia, that gator has a whole deer in its mouth! The hungry toothy critter was found near a home.
Anita and Charlie Rogers said they could hear the bellowing at night. Neighbors had been telling them that they had seen a mammoth alligator in the waterway that runs behind their house, but they dismissed the stories.
"I didn't believe it," Charles Rogers said.
Friday they realized the stories were, if anything, understated. Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens had to shoot the alligator.
