American (revisionist) History: Part Three By Bob Chochola Friday, July 14, 2009 Issue National Examiner
Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated on April 4th, 1968 by a white supremacist. Since then, left-wing racists like the New Black Panthers have been slowly rewriting history by staking false claim to his legacy. But then again, the same holds true for some folks on the right.
Dr. King was a messenger of peace and freedom. He stood for equality and opportunity for all people. He was not a face on a political party. He was a man of God and he had a dream that his countrymen would do the right thing. And he fought for this dream, not with violence and arrogance, but with eloquence. He marched into battle with the sword of liberty and a shield of righteousness.
His is a story that teaches a valuable lesson for mankind; judge not the color of a person’s skin, but the content of their character. He was a man with a vision for all people to embrace and not a partisan political icon.
A recent billboard stating that “Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican” has sparked outrage among the radical left and has since been removed by the billboard company, presumably because the company may have feared further action and possibly violent reaction to the ad’s message. A message, by the way, that is arguably accurate, however dwarfed by a man much bigger than any one political party.
Dr. King was a powerful voice among black voters and he courted both republicans and democrats. He never officially endorsed a candidate or party. He fought for the same rights for which America’s founding fathers fought. He believed in America. He was a great defender of our Constitution, Declaration of Independence, freedom, and traditional values upon which America’s greatness was built. His life was devoted to a world where all men are created equal; he spoke powerful words to bring people together, not tear them apart. It is unfortunate the divided in this Twenty-first Century choose to fight over him like a pack of stray dogs tearing at a road kill.
At the same time, however, it is true family members of the late Dr. King have said that he was a republican. Does it matter?
Dr. King was about equal opportunity not outcome. He wanted to build-up and make-strong those who are oppressed and discriminated against by revealing the will within all of our natures to overcome even the most impossible obstacles. He believed every man has the ability to succeed when given an equal chance, and hard work applied. He did not see victims in need of a government handout, or a system designed to patronize and fast track groups of people defined by skin color and the imaginary boundaries of an ethnically defined pseudo community.
These are the rally points of the left. Victimization and segregation followed by government intervention. Dr. King was not about that. He sought equality, accountability, and freedom.
An article posted on FoxNews.com quoted several of the New Black Panthers as they attacked the black conservative group who paid for the billboard. They were offended by the notion that Dr. King was at all like modern republicans. Maybe that’s true, but he wasn’t like modern democrats either. Not by a long shot!
The left continues its campaign to rewrite American history every chance it gets. Reminiscent of the frequent Abraham Lincoln references during the last presidential race (note: Abraham Lincoln was a republican too), the New Black Panthers have dismissed some of the facts surrounding the larger picture and will shout-down and threaten in order to make a point, however invalid or inaccurate it may be.
This is how the left operates and how it alters perceived reality – history - by intimidation. The media are forever accommodating this thug mentality in an attempt to appease the angry mob. Heaven forbid the unfolding controversy costs a few television viewers or newspaper readers, or that the inevitable “R-word” is used, as it was (again) in the case of the billboard. The sign company removed the message quickly and by doing so they gave substance to the New Black Panthers’ point of view. The fact that the ad was pulled lends credibility to the victorious and vindication goes in favor of the thugs regardless of the truth.
As it so often happens when a particular group is defined as “victims” within the culture by liberals, there has to be a “villain” in the story and this is certain to cultivate an undercurrent of animosity and hate on both sides. Now there’s a word the left can hang their hat on – hate. This division that naturally evolves is exactly what Dr. King stood against. The divide is as great as it was in 1968 and even those whites who admire the great civil rights leader for his purpose and courage face the wrath and venom of groups like the New Black Panthers. Guilt by association, because of skin color alone, is the rally cry and the division grows-and-grows.
Remembering a man that walked this Earth more than two-thousand years ago, who spoke of equality for everyone under God – the original purveyor of civil rights (as opposed to calling Him a “community organizer”), Jesus Christ made His own case and was put to death for it. Maybe it is no coincidence that two men so strongly in favor of uniting the human race, met with a similar violent end to their lives and have since come under vigorous scrutiny from all sides of an ideologically subdivided civilization.
Before deep racial and political divisions promoted by a rarely “fair” and never “balanced” media can be eliminated, and in order to transcend hate within the very soul of the human race, the barrier of skin color must be eliminated – by all people. Who a person is, rather than what a person is, must be the defining element.
Accomplishing this will take much compromise from both sides of every issue – from all people. It will also require every person to be accountable for their own life and actions, no matter the circumstances. A victim is someone who blames someone else for their own misfortune and that alone promotes hate, mistrust, and failure.
Under God, there simply are no victims. Dr. King said it right, “We are God’s children.”
Dr. King also said, “I’ve been to the mountaintop!” He came to all of us with a message much different from that of today’s liberal left – the New Black Panthers or the Ku Klux Klan. Different in that it embraced all people as one people and longed to erase all that divides us. And that is in itself a divine message from on high.
“We've got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn't matter with me now. Because I've been to the mountaintop. And I don't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land. And I'm happy, tonight. I'm not worried about anything. I'm not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speaking at Mason Temple, Memphis, TN on April 3, 1968. ____________________
(Author’s Note: My article “American Revisionist History, Part One” is still out of print. “Someone registered a complaint with the president of the company” and I was required to confirm my sources and post a re-write. In spite of the fact that I did both, the article is yet to be re-printed. The quote in question can be attributed to Mr. George Soros in an interview on CBS 60 Minutes. Since the complaint registered was referencing a direct quote easily verified, I’m assuming the use of someone’s own words can be debated these days even if you have video evidence and a certified transcript of the show to prove what you quoted was actually said. So, for now, the only place you’ll be able to read Part One of this series, is on my web site: http://bobzilla.tv/politicaljournal/americanrevhistoryi.html where I alone do the censoring, uh, I mean, editing.)
